SPC
Statistical Process Control
A way of supervising a process that tells normal variation apart from a signal that something has changed.
Every process has natural variation. SPC derives the limits of that variation from data and raises an alarm when results behave unusually: a single point beyond a limit, a run on one side of the mean, a rising trend.
The key thing is that the signal appears while results are still within tolerance. You react to the trend, not to the reject.
What it looks like in the system
Smart Control runs I-MR and X-bar/R charts, checks the signal detection rules and shows the trend to the operator during measurement.
